CryptoAngels: Uriel
The twelfth in a series of posts about the Archangels of the CryptoAngels project and their inspirations.
Owned by Raj71.eth, Uriel is the most sociable and cheerful of the Archangels. Having no immediate duties in Heaven, he has settled in the Eburnean Fells on the World of Peleus and lives a carefree life of hunting, storytelling, and singing with the centaur-folk of that realm. But we learn that Uriel will become active in the final battle of the Eschaton and will rouse his centaur cavalry to meet the enemy on the Wastes of Blood. The humour of Uriel is a weapon too – he resists the darkness by laughing at it.
Uriel’s adopted home World of Peleus is named after a king from Greek mythology who was father of the hero Achilles and friend of the centaur Chiron. The Eburnean Fells means ‘The Ivory Hills’, which reflects the colour of Uriel’s aura. His constellation and companions the Centaurs appear frequently in Greek mythology, where they are often depicted as wild and fierce, though some were wise and kind. Most famously, Chiron tutored the young Achilles in the arts of music, hunting, and medicine.
Uriel’s status as a folk hero is based on the enduring popularity of figures such as the Green Man and Robin Hood. He gives us an insight into how the figures of the Archangels are interpreted by mortals throughout the Multiverse.
