CryptoAngels: Jeremiel
The seventh in a series of posts about the Archangels of the CryptoAngels project and their inspirations.
Owned by MYSTERIO, Jeremiel commands an air force of green dragons, which supports the ground troops of Metatron in the Mountains of Ignea in the defence of Heaven. His sword is named Firedrake, which is the word for a fire-breathing dragon in Germanic mythology. Jeremiel’s description is inspired by the many fantasy books that involve humans and dragons fighting together, such as the Dragonlance books by Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman, the Dragonriders of Pern by Anne McCaffrey, and the Temeraire series by Naomi Novik.
In Jeremiel’s description we learn more about the Mountains of Ignea which surround heaven. They are composed of fire obsidian – a rare and beautiful form of volcanic glass, and the sky swirls with shifting aurorae. A sublime but dangerous region.
Jeremiel’s fleet of dragons are collectively known as the Emerald Fire. All are green, as opposed to the red dragons of the enemy. Jeremiel’s signature colour is also emerald green, and this is the colour of the aura that surrounds him. An interesting point about the CryptoAngels multiverse: Jeremiel commands his fleet in the dragon language, which is revealed to be even older than the tongue of the angels. This implies that the dragons were the original inhabitants of the Chaos that came before the Multiverse.
