CryptoAngels: Barachiel

The sixth in a series of posts about the Archangels of the CryptoAngels project and their inspirations.

Owned by 1confirmation, Barachiel is the Angel of Dreams, who guards the more subtle aspects of existence of which mortals can see only glimpses in their deep subconscious. He is inspired by Morpheus the god of dreams from Greek mythology. His mace is more ceremonial than the other Archangels’ weapons – a symbol of his sovereignty over his dream realm. His fight with the forces of the Dark takes place on the psychic planes, as he defends the vulnerable minds of mortals.

Barachiel resides in Somnium Lux – Latin for Dream Light – which could be considered the soul of Heaven. It is a beautiful realm steeped in a constant rose-gold twilight, from which mortals gain hope and creative inspiration. Somnium Lux takes inspiration from Dêmos Oneírōn, the Land of Dreams in Greek mythology, which lies beyond the streams of Oceanus and close to the Meadows of Asphodel, where the spirits of the dead dwell. Mortal minds can briefly touch Somnium Lux, especially in deep sleep. They take the form of fleeting wisps, which flicker briefly before returning to more physical realms. Of all mortals, artists are the ones who visit the longest.
