CryptoAngels: Michael

The first in a series of posts about the Archangels of the CryptoAngels project and their inspirations.

Owned by Moderats, Michael is the High King of the Archangels, a brooding monarch troubled by the growing power of the forces of the Dark. All the Worlds of the Multiverse are his responsibility, and their destiny weighs heavy on him. 

In Michael’s description we lay out the concept of the Multiverse and the Manichaean conflict between the angels of the Light and the threat of the Dark. We touch on the impending Eschaton – the battle at the end of the Multiverse, the reason why all the Archangels carry weapons. Inspired by the named blades of legendary kings and warriors – King Arthur’s Excalibur,  Charlemagne’s Joyeuse, Roland’s Durendal – Michael’s sword is named Aureus Rex – Latin for Golden King.

Michael rules from the Palace of Light in the centre of Heaven. We conceive Heaven as the central point of the Multiverse, with the other Worlds radiating out from it in all directions in an infinite spectrum of possible realities. The bull who guards the Palace of Light, Taurus of the Golden Hide, is named after the star constellation. Note the similarity with Talos – the bull who guards the Clockwork Court in Trevor’s project The Engine. Talos could be considered an other-dimensional echo of Taurus.
