CryptoAngels: Raguel

The ninth in a series of posts about the Archangels of the CryptoAngels project and their inspirations.

Owned by WCC, Raguel is another very unusual Archangel. Not only does he not live in Heaven, he has abandoned all the status and power of an Archangel to become a humble wanderer through the Worlds of the Multiverse. Though known as ‘the Prodigal’ Raguel exhibits a nature that none of the others possess – a humility that allows him to feel uncertainty about his assigned role, so to seek wisdom outside the knowledge of the Archangels. Perhaps this search too is part of the divine plan. Raguel is accompanied on his travels by the lynx Silens. Silens is an appropriate companion for this Archangel – like Raguel, Lynx are solitary animals, and they are known for their silent and stealthy movement.

An inspiration for Raguel was the character of Jim Casy from The Grapes of Wrath by John Steinbeck. Casy is a wandering former preacher who lost his religious faith and went out into the world to listen to and help people. Another unique aspect of Raguel is that he is the only Archangel whose appearance is based on a real person: that of his owner Benny, a pioneering collector and curator of crypto art.
