SYNERGY 2021
A COLLABORATION
The Project
Synergy 2021 is a year-long collaborative project consisting of 12 artist drops on Nifty Gateway. All of the artwork will be connected through the key themes but also by means of the creation of the physical paintings and subsequently the NFTs, as the series of works develop.
Each of the artists involved have chosen a portrait 'sitter’, someone who they regard as inspirational and who exemplifies one or more of the key themes.
I began the Synergy process using the Generative Adversarial Networks (GAN) of Artbreeder by ‘mixing’ my own inspirational figure, Marie Curie with the first of the sitters, Coldie’s Nicola Tesla. This ‘hybrid’ image became the inspiration for my first portrait painting of the series. Once the painting was completed this genesis piece was scanned, producing a high resolution image, which served two purposes.

- Coldie received the image to manipulate and reinterpret in his own unique style to create the artwork for the first Synergy drop.
- Additionally, the portrait image was subsequently ‘mixed’ with the 2nd sitter, Sir Ken Robinson (care of Goldweard) to produce the inspiration for my next painting. This process will continue throughout the year until eventually, the final portrait painting image, a synthesis of the previous 11 ‘sitters’ will be sent to Pak to create the work for the final drop.
