Crypto Cubism: Introduction

"OTHERS HAVE SEEN WHAT IS AND ASKED WHY. I HAVE SEEN WHAT COULD BE AND ASKED WHY NOT." ~ PABLO PICASSO

Picasso The genius

Picasso was a creative genius and undeniably one of the 20th century's greatest innovators. In fact, to this day Apple urges its employees to study Picasso's work and mindset. I've always been a huge fan of Picasso; his desire to take risks, his energy and ambition, and his ability to see the world in entirely new and captivating ways.

My current series of paintings draw a correlation between the genius of Picasso and that of some of the projects that are currently being built in the blockchain and crypto space. I've selected some crypto projects that will make strong paintings inspired by a few of my favourite Picasso masterpieces.

"GOOD ARTISTS BORROW, GREAT ARTISTS STEAL"

Picasso made this statement in reference to how artists learn and especially 'take' from other artists to develop concepts and create new work, and so with a nod to the man, I have quite literally 'stolen' the composition and palette of some of his key paintings to inform my current creative process. I've reconstructed Picasso's artworks in oil, collage and even sand (as he did) with cryptocurrency logos and other relevant contemporary symbols and iconography. I would hope that Picasso would approve and I'm certain he'd be fascinated with my use of augmented reality. Knowing Picasso's drive for innovation, it's very likely he would have been one of the first artists to incorporate AR with his work if he was a contemporary artist.
