"The colliding of the worlds of art and digital has encouraged the democratisation of conceptual art, bringing ideas to more people, from all walks of life, all over the world." ~ Morgan Gilbreath
From the essay Art and Innovation written for my series of QR code paintings
When I first began exploring the possibilities and opportunities that "digitally enhanced" artwork might offer I thought it would be interesting to find out others' takes on it as well. I approached some art historians, writers, and academics to discuss how technological innovations could potentially alter the way people approach traditional art forms and the benefits and repercussions this may present. I ended up with four interesting and engaging essays.

"Where Art Meets Technology"
Imagine pointing your iPad or smartphone at a traditional oil painting and suddenly, like magic, the picture comes to life right before your eyes. A song begins to play and figures in the artwork dance to the music, a cello player draws his bow across strings and butterflies flutter over top a little girl's umbrella as she jumps up and down in an imaginary puddle. Welcome to Augmented Reality. |
