Harry's in Heaven

Mixed media on board, 122 x 122 cm

I'd worked on this painting on and off for about 4 months before it really started to come together. Three years after graduating I'm finally coming to terms with my painting processes and know that I will inevitably need to destroy a painting many times before I'm able to finally achieve something of what I'm looking for. Admittedly, it’s not a very efficient way of working. The amount of paint I use, especially on a work of this size, is quite scary but I’ve come to terms with it… although my bank account is still not too happy with me.

Saying that, however, there is nothing more satisfying than finishing a painting after so much self-doubt, struggle, and yes, definitely swearing, and then putting it into an exhibition and having someone love it so much that they buy it. Harry’s in Heaven was the biggest painting in my exhibition at the UNIONgallery and it sold one day before the show ended! I was really overwhelmed by the fantastic response to the exhibition. Thanks to everyone for all your support! x

...

ps. I can now confirm that my bank account has since taken me out for a drink to apologise for its lack of faith in me.
