Harry's in Heaven

122 x 122 cm
Mixed media on Board

I've been working on this painting on and off for about 4 months and I feel I've finally managed to pull it together. It was inspired by a Celtic fusion/electronica song called Harry's in Heaven, by the Canadian born, Scottish musician, Martyn Bennett.

The song alternates predominantly between the notes G and C which, on Roy de Maistre's* colour music code, equates to indigo and a yellow/orange. It wasn't working for me visually however, using these colours. Eventually, the overall colour statement developed into this sage green. I then shifted the relevant colours of G and C closer to a G flat and B flat to finish with the current blue/indigo and vibrant orange situated in the upper left and right sides of the painting. The painting began to come together for me at that point visually in response to the song and hey, I never said it was a science. I still have a bit more work to do on it but let me know what you think. Send me a note here.
